YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The faith-based community organizing group Action (Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods) will hold its 15th annual community fundraiser April 20 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Social Hall, 243 Via Mount Carmel Drive.

Doors open at 5 p.m. The event will feature state Sen. Joseph Schiavoni, D-33, who will speak on the theme, “A Season of Change: Respect for All!”

Action will also recognize institutions and individuals for outstanding contributions to the community. The annual Frances Kerpsack Awards will be presented to the Midlothian Free Health Clinic (Institutional Service Award), Sister Annie Hall (Humanitarian Award), and the Rev. Dr. Lewis Macklin III (Community Service Award).

Presenters will include Youngstown Mayor John McNally, the Rev. Terrence Hazel, pastor of St. Michael Church, and Anne Liller, Action board member.

Tickets for the event are $35 per person, or $280 per table of eight people.

Funds raised at the event will underwrite Action’s key initiatives. The organization is dedicated to confronting ongoing challenges including racism, rebuilding the future for returning citizens, and mitigating problems related to the food desert that affects scores of local urban neighborhoods.
