Organists Guild’s Upcoming Convention Sets Concert Schedule

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Chapter of the American Guild of Organists has announced the concert line-up for the Great Lakes Regional Convention from July 2 to 5.

July 3 starts the convention with a string ensemble, Apollo’s Fire: The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra, presenting a concert featuring the full ensemble, “Vivaldi Rediscovered,” at 3 p.m. at St. Columba Cathedral. Tickets are $20 and will be available at the door.

At 7 p.m. that day, Stambaugh Auditorium will hold Arsenal Duo, organist Edward Allen Moore and pianist Nathan Carterette, followed by the silent movie “Nosferatu” featuring organist, Todd Wilson. July 4 features Illuminaire, a local choir under the direction of Jon Simsic, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 1410 Oakhill Ave. The concert is free and open to the public.

Caroline Oltmanns, Youngstown State University professor and pianist, will perform a recital at 2:30 p.m. July 4 at the Ford Recital Hall at the DeYor Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available through the DeYor box office by calling 330 744 4269.

At 8 p.m. July 4 a recital by organist, Nathan Laube will take place at Trinity United Methodist Church, 30 W. Front St.

On July 5, Rhonda Sider-Edgington, along with YSU faculty, Stacie Mickens, and Kathryn Umble will perform a concert at 11 a.m. at St. Christine’s Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave.

The grand finale concert at Stambaugh Auditorium will feature James David Christie, the organist of the Boston Symphony along with the Youngstown Scoring Stage Orchestra, presenting a live concert debut at 8 p.m. The concert will feature Stambaugh’s fully restored E.M. Skinner Pipe Organ. Tickets are available through the Stambaugh box office.
