Chamber Hosting Local Government Course

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Registration for the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber’s nine-week course on local government ends Jan. 18.

Topics presented by the Mahoning Valley Local Government Leadership Academy include how to run for office, the duties of elected officials, local government collaboration, promoting economic development and dealing with media and citizens.

“Developing strong leaders is essential for the prosperity of our region,” Guy Coviello,  chamber vice president of government affairs, said in a release. “We are happy to offer this academy so the individuals can benefit personally from the professional development and networking, but most importantly so that we continue to build a cadre of ambassadors helping the Valley succeed.”

Registration costs $265 and participants must attend at least seven sessions to graduate. Classes will be held at the Regional Chamber’s office on the 17th floor of First National Bank Tower every Tuesday between Jan. 26 and March 22 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Among the presenters are former state representative and current Austintown Township Trustee Ken Carano; Tom Pascarella, director of administration for  Tallmadge; Hunter Morrison, director of the Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium Initiative; and Marla Carano, coordinator of Youngstown State Univeristy’s metro credit program.
