Eastern Gateway Names Jimmie Bruce President

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Eastern Gateway Community College today named Jimmie Bruce as its next president.

The Eastern Gateway board of trustees selected Bruce from a pool of four finalists, John T. Gilmore, chairman of the board, said in a news release. “This will mark an important milestone for EGCC,” Gilmore said.

Bruce, vice president of academic success at Northwest Vista College, one of five independently accredited colleges within the Alamo Colleges in Texas, will be the fourth in the history of Eastern Gateway since its inception as Jefferson Technical Institute.

Bruce will succeed Laura Meeks, who retires July 31 after 16 years as president of Eastern Gateway. Meeks announced her intent to retire last August.

The selection of Bruce selection concludes a seven-month national search. The presidential search committee of 13 was composed of college faculty and staff, board members, foundation representatives, community representatives and a student. Julie Golder, search consultant for the Association of Community College Trustees, helped.
