Flex-Strut to Expand Its Plant for 5th Time

HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Flex-Strut Inc. plans to expand its Commonwealth Avenue plant for the fifth time, driven by an increase in business and growing market share, said the company’s president, Dale Gebhardt Sr .

“We’re going to put two additions on totaling 11,870 square-feet,” Gebhardt said. The company is planning on spending about $1.25 million on the expansion project, which will provide more manufacturing and storage space.

The Board of Trumbull County Commissioners today approved an enterprise zone agreement that calls for a 60% tax abatement on real property to help the project.

Flex-Strut, founded in 1944, manufactures continuous slot-metal framing that is used by customers all across the country. Gebhardt said that over the last year, the company has entered new markets, leading to more business.

He said that the expansion would result in the creation of at least eight jobs. However, he pointed out that the company has always exceeded its targeted number relative to past enterprise zone agreements.

Flex-Strut currently employs 71.

“We should break ground in August and finish the project in the fall,” he said. It is the fifth expansion since the company started in business here in 1994.
