Huntington Bank Completes Acquisition of FirstMerit

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Huntington Bancshares Inc., has completed its acquisition of FirstMerit Corp. and all offices of FirstMerit Bank are now branches of Huntington National Bank, Huntington announced this morning.

The agreement between the two providers of financial services based in Columbus (Huntington) and Akron (FirstMerit) was announced Jan. 25.

The resulting entity has assets of $100 billion with nearly 1,000 branches and 2,000 ATMs in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.

Integration of FirstMerit into Huntington is expected to be completed sometime in the first quarter of next year, Stephen D. Steinour, chairman president and CEO of Huntington said in a statement.

Customers of FirstMerit will be notified of changes to expect as the conversion of its systems to Huntington proceeds.
