Mahoning Valley Car Sales Continue Climb

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Car sales in the Mahoning Valley continue to be ahead of last year’s figures, data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association show.

In July, 5,016 new and used vehicles were sold in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, up 14.5% from a year ago. New car sales rose 15.5% to 2,910 and sales of used vehicles climbed to 2,029, 216 more than July 2016.

“Attractive new 2018 models and strong incentives should continue to draw customers into local dealers’ showrooms,” said Louis Vitantonio, president of the association in a release. “Despite having softer sales across the nation, the basic market dynamics are still very healthy. Dealers are anticipating a national market of between 16 million and 17 million new vehicles sold. Locally, we anticipate a strong finish for 2017.”

In the three-county area, Greenwood Chevrolet of Austintown led new-car sales with 222 delivered to customers, up from 186 last year, followed by Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 201 sold, up from 149. Rounding out the top five were Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, with 158; Stadium GM Superstore, Salem, with 145; and Boardman Subaru with 143.

Greenwood also led used-car sales in the area with 117 sold last month.

In the 21-county area the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association covers, Greenwood posted the highest combined sales figure with 348 cars, trucks and SUVs sold in July. In addition, the two Sweeney dealerships also ranked in the top five.
