Mill Creek MetroParks to Celebrate 125 Years

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mill Creek MetroParks will celebrate its 125th birthday Wednesday with a series of events.

April 6 is the date in 1891 that Youngstown voters approved the legislation to create a township park district, thus giving birth to Mill Creek Park

Mill Creek MetroParks will celebrate the milestone throughout 2016 with an assortment of guided hikes, trolley tours and other themed events. Those scheduled for Wednesday :

  • Happy Birthday Mill Creek Park Trolley Tour (passengers board at Ford Nature Center), 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. Cohasset Express tour of nostalgic areas of the park that reflect Volney Rogers’ originalvision and efforts.  Registration  is required (small fee applies).   • Happy 125th Birthday – Hike in Gorge, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Recreational 2-mile hike meeting at Lanterman’s Mill overflow lot.
  • Ford Nature Center Hunt & Hike, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Hunt for 25 birthday cakes hidden at Ford Nature Center to commemorate the quasquicentennial followed by hike.
