October VLT Play Down from Year Earlier at Racino

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Bettors wagered $78.5 million on video lottery terminals at Mahoning Valley Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course in October, the Ohio Lottery Commission reported.

VLT play last month was down 1.7% from October 2014, which was the first full month the Austintown racino was opened. The racino, operated by Penn National Gaming Inc. of Wyomissing, Pa., opened on Sept. 17, 2014.

According to the monthly report, which the lottery commission released Monday afternoon, 940 VLTs were operating on average during October, compared with 857 during October 2014.

Last month’s wagers at the Austintown racino were up from $77.9 million in September.

Mondays’ release of the statewide VLT results offered the first opportunity for year-over-year monthly comparison since the racino’s opening.

“Results at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course were in line with our expectations, said Eric Schippers, senior vice president of public affairs for Penn National, responding in an email request for comment.

Statewide, play at VLTs in October totaled $761.5 million, up from $736.1 million, up 3.5% from October 2014.
