ODNR Issues 12 New Permits for Utica Wells

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources last week issued 12 new permits for horizontal wells in the southern tier of the Utica shale, the agency reports.

Rice Drilling LLC obtained four permits to drill in Belmont County, Chesapeake Exploration LLC received four for new wells in Harrison County, and Antero Resources Corp. received three to drill in Noble County.

American Petroleum PRTR Ohio LLC received one permit to drill a horizontal well in Jefferson County, ODNR reports.

The rig count in eastern Ohio’s Utica stood at 21 for the week ended Aug. 22, down from 25 the previous week, ODNR reported.

To date, 1,997 permits have been issued for new horizontal wells in Ohio’s Utica, 1,586 of these wells are drilled, and 998 are in production.

No new permits were issued for wells in Mahoning, Columbiana or Trumbull counties last week. Nor did the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issue permits for neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania.
