ODNR Issues Three Permits for Utica Drilling

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued three new permits for horizontal wells in eastern Ohio’s Utica shale for the week ended March 26, the agency’s oil and gas division reports.

Two permits were issued to Triad Hunter LLC for wells in Monroe County at the company’s McIntire pad in Ohio Township.

ODNR awarded a third permit to R.E. Development LLC, a division of Rex Energy, for a well in Carroll County in Harrison Township at the company’s Goebeler unit.

ODNR reports 12 rigs were operating in the Utica during the week ended March 26, up one rig from the previous week.

No permits were issued for Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties.

To date, 2,152 permits for horizontal wells have been issued in Ohio’s portion of the Utica. Of that number, 1,703 wells are drilled and 1,252 wells are in production, according to ODNR data.

No new permits were issued for neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania’s section of the Utica, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
