McNally to Retain 3, Bozanich to Step Down
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Mayor-elect John A. McNally announced today that Fire Chief John O’Neill, Water Commissioner Harry Johnson, Building and Grounds Commissioner Sean McKinney will be retained to serve their current posts in his administration. “I am confident they will provide a seamless transition and implement changes and policies I have planned for the city," McNally said in a statement. "I look forward to working with them.”
O’Neill has served as fire chief since January 1998 and has been in the fire department since 1995.
Johnson has served as water commissioner since 2010. Under his direction, Youngstown has added an online pay option for water bills and broadened communications between customers and his department, the mayor-elect noted.
McKinney has served as commissioner of building and grounds since September 2006. He has overseen the street department, building and grounds department and housing code enforcement.
Finance Director Dave Bozanich has indicated his desire to leave city government in the near future, according to the announcement. Bozanich, who has served in the finance department since 1983, will remain as finance director while a search for his replacement is conducted. McNally said he expects to present a new finance director for confirmation by City Council by July 1, 2014.
“All of these gentlemen have served and will continue to serve Youngstown well. I know they will be assets to my administration,” McNally said.
The mayor-elect required city officials serving in unclassified service positions who wanted to retain their jobs to submit resumes by Dec. 1.
Still to be announced are McNally's selections for chief of staff, law director and assistant law directors, city prosecutor and assistant city prosecutors, police chief, director of parks and recreation and executive director of the Human Relations Commission.
