Three Permits Issued in Ohio’s Utica

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Just three permits for new horizontal wells were issued in eastern Ohio’s Utica shale during the week ended May 7, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Two permits were awarded to Statoil USA Onshore Properties for wells in Monroe County, while a third permit was issued to XTO Energy for another well in Monroe.

To date, 2,168 horizontal permits have been issued in the Ohio portion of the Utica. Of that number, 1,736 are drilled and 1,290 are in production.

The Utica’s rig count in Ohio stood at 12 for the week, up from 11 the previous week, according to ODNR.

There were no new permits issued for Mahoning, Columbiana, or Trumbull counties in Ohio. Nor were there new permits issued for wells in neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
