Utica Shale Rig Count Down to 30

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Natural Gas Intelligence, a trade journal, reports the Baker Hughes Inc. drilling rig count in North America for the week ending March 20 declined 136 rigs from the week before. That leaves 1,209 active rigs, “down 983 from one year ago,” reports NGI.

In the Utica Shale play, there were 30 active rigs last week, down 9% from the week before and 25% from the same week in 2014, according to Baker Hughes.

In the Marcellus play, 69 rigs were active, a 10% gain from the week ended March 13 but down 12% from the 2014 period.
