Record VLT Play in March at Austintown Racino

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Play on video lottery terminals at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course in March was the highest since its September 2014 opening.

Wagers on VLTs at the Austintown racino totaled $88.8 million, according to the newly released results posted by the Ohio Lottery Commission, which oversees  video slot machines. The March total is up $13.7 million from the $75.1 million reported in March 2015, an 18.2% increase over the year.

Statewide, VLT play in March totaled just under $862 million, up from $776.8 million a year earlier, an 11% increase.

“We continue to be pleased with the results at our gaming facilities in Ohio, which are consistent with our expectations,” Eric Schippers, senior vice president of Penn National Gaming, Inc., said in an email. Penn National operates the Austintown racino.

Credits won on wagers at the racino totaled $79.1 million in March, compared with $66.6 million a year earlier. Net win, at $8.9 million, was about $1 million ahead of last year.

The racino’s commission – what Penn National receives from the net win for operating the venue – totaled $5.9 million last month, up from $5.3 million in March 2015.
