YSU Named One of Top Online Schools in Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A study by Affordable Colleges Online ranks Youngstown State University as the 11th best online college in Ohio, YSU announced today.

Among the criteria on which the rankings are based are the number of degrees offered, the ratio of undergraduate students to faculty, a university’s six-year graduation rate and the percentage of students receiving financial aid.

“We’ve put a lot of hard work into the program in terms of how we align the program with academic rigor and student support,” said Millie Rodriguez, director of the office of distance education at YSU. “When you add it all together with the fact that we are so affordable, it makes us a great choice for people.”

Affordable Colleges Online gave YSU a score of 94.62, noting that all 11 online programs are based on standards set by the National Education Technology Standards and Quality Matters Rubric. The student-teacher ratio is 17 to 1 and 96% of students receive financial aid.

“This shows us that we’re doing all the right things to create a quality academic program for our students,” Rodriguez said. “We’re doing this because maybe students can’t go to college any other way. This is a great option and the numbers show that.”

The No. 1 school on the list is Wilmington College with a score of 98.27.

“When it comes to online learning, these schools set the bar,” said Affordable Colleges Online founder and CEO Dan Schuessler in a prepared statement. “These programs have made attending college accessible and affordable while maintaining rigorous academic standards of excellence and providing support services for their students.”

The main campus of Kent State University was ranked just ahead of YSU at No. 10 with a score of 95.34. Other ranked schools in northeastern Ohio are Hiram College, ranked third; Baldwin Wallace University, fifth; and the University of Akron, 23rd. Ohio State University was ranked 15th.

On the national list of the website, University of Michigan, University of Florida, New York University, Northeastern University and University of Virginia were ranked as having the five online programs.
