Printmaking Collaborative at YSU Welcomes Guest Artist

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – As part of the Red Press Collaborative, guest artist Kristen Powers Nowlin will be making prints of her works at Youngstown State University’s Bliss Hall the week of Feb. 20.

The Red Press Collaborative is a YSU Department of Art program aimed at promoting printmaking in the Mahoning Valley. Participating artists make limited edition prints with assistance from YSU art students. Several methods are used, including intaglio, lithography, screen printing and digital printing.

The printmaking process is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 20 through 22 in Room 4025 in Bliss Hall.

Prints are being pre-sold for $125 during her three-day stay at the Department of Art at YSU. All proceeds will support students in the printmaking program and the Red Press Collaborative.

Nowlin’s work has been featured in more than 200 exhibitions, a third of which have been juried. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Lux Center for the Arts in Lincoln, Neb., and Central Wyoming College, as well as a visual arts fellow with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Nowlin teaches part-time at Kansas State University.

“Print collaboration in its tradition has fostered relationships between professional artists and students, using the most contemporary and comprehensive printmaking concepts available,” said YSU professor Joseph D’Uva in a release. “The Red Press Collaborative is a means towards creating these interactions and educating future fine art printmakers. We are excited about this year’s guest artist and look forward to both the print and the T-shirt image, both of which are unknown until the process begins.”

Parking is available for a fee in the M-30 parking deck on Wick Avenue. Due to construction, visitors must use the Walnut Street entrance. For more information, call 330 941 2307.
