HARRISBURG, Pa. – Two projects in Mercer County will receive a total of $1.5 million in state grants to modernize intersections to increase safety for pedestrians and motorists.
The city of Sharon will receive $1.13 million for traffic signal modernization and incorporation of curb extensions at Sharpsville Avenue, Dock Street and Railroad Street at their intersections with East State Street.
“Folks in Sharon travel East State Street every day to get to work, visit local businesses and go about their daily lives, so it’s important that these intersections are as safe and reliable as possible,” state Rep. Parke Wentling, R-7th, said. “This grant will help the city make practical improvements that will benefit drivers and pedestrians alike, and I’m glad to see these state dollars coming back home to support our community.”
Grove City will receive $364,584 for traffic signal upgrades at the intersection of South Center Street and East Pine Street.
“These projects will improve safety at some of Mercer County’s busiest intersections by upgrading outdated traffic signal infrastructure,” state Sen. Michele Brooks, R-50th, said. “I’m pleased to see state funding supporting improvements that will benefit everyone who travels these roads.”
The grants are provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Green Light-Go program, which is designed to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals.
