YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University’s Centofanti School of Nursing recently inducted 48 students into the Xi Xi Chapter of Sigma, the International Honor Society of Nursing, recognizing academic excellence and leadership in the field.
The newly inducted members include students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, RN-to-BSN and graduate nursing programs.
The induction ceremony recognized students who demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership and professional commitment. Membership in Sigma is determined by academic criteria established by the organization.
Undergraduate nursing students must complete at least half of their nursing curriculum, rank among the top students in their cohort and meet Sigma’s grade-point average requirements to be eligible. Graduate nursing students must complete a minimum portion of their program and demonstrate academic achievement. All inductees are selected based on their ability to uphold Sigma’s core values of scholarship, leadership and service.
Sigma is a global organization committed to advancing nursing practice, education, research and leadership. Induction provides members access to an international network of nurse scholars and leaders and supports lifelong professional growth.
The Xi Xi Chapter includes 178 students and nurse leaders. Danielle Class, assistant professor in the Centofanti School of Nursing, serves as president of the Sigma Theta Tau Xi Xi Chapter.
