COLUMBUS, Ohio –  The Ohio Department of Transportation’s Transportation Review Advisory Council on Wednesday approved $6.5 million for U.S. Route 224 roadway and safety enhancements and improved access management.

It’s among 14 major transportation projects in 14 counties approved by the council with a $319.3 million investment.

The U.S. 224 project, starting near Market Street and continuing to the ramps to Interstate 680 will include the addition of turn lanes, signal improvements, implementation of access management strategies and improvements to pedestrian safety. It was among projects recommended for construction during the upcoming four-year construction period.

Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, the Mahoning County Engineer and Boardman are among the entities that submitted letters of support for the project.

The funding approved Wednesday is for fiscal year 2026. The total project cost is $15.6 million.

The project list includes $295.2 million for construction and development funding on 8 projects, $9.1 million for new project development funding on 3 projects, and $15.0 million for additional project development funding on 3 projects. The funding is allocated through 2028.
