AKRON, Ohio – 717 Credit Union announced Monday it will open two branches in the city this spring.

The first branch will open April 6 in Akron’s Wallhaven neighborhood at 1 N. Hawkins Ave., Suite 2. The second branch will open later this spring in the AES building at 388 S. Main St., adjacent to the Greater Akron Chamber.

As part of its broader mission, the credit union has committed $100 million to affordable housing initiatives in northeastern Ohio, and during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Wallhaven location, 717 representatives plan to announce a new partnership with a local organization to advance that effort, a news release states.

“As we enter the Akron market, 717 is focused on putting affordability front and center,” said John Demmler, 717 president and CEO. “We are breaking down barriers to home ownership, reducing transportation costs, providing best-in-the-country debt consolidation plans and providing the best CD rates in the country with CD rates as high as 7.17%. 717 is about helping real families achieve real savings. It’s part of our commitment to helping people live better lives financially.”

During the Wallhaven location opening, 717 plans to expand on its commitment to providing these services and will announce the details of its Ohio Strong program, which will aim to put money back into the pockets of Ohio families.

The two new branches in the city follow 717’s partnership with the Akron RubberDucks, a Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians. As part of the partnership, the team’s home stadium was renamed 717 Credit Union Park.
