YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Nine existing murals in the Mahoning Valley have been selected for inclusion in the Murals Across Ohio list.
The project is a collaboration between America 250-Ohio – which will celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary next year – and the Ohio Arts Council. Decals announcing each mural’s selection have been placed at each site.
The murals spotlight the vibrancy of Ohio’s cities and regions and share information on history, ambiance, famous residents and other aspects. Another goal, according to the arts council, is to prompt tourism by encouraging people to see the murals in person.
The statewide program currently has accepted 288 murals, located in all 88 counties. The list will grow, as submissions are still being accepted.
Each mural is listed on an interactive map on its website, along with information about its creators and purpose. To see the map, click HERE.
The largest mural in the Mahoning Valley is on Andrews Avenue near downtown Youngstown, which is a couple of hundred feet long.
It was created a few years ago by students in the public art class at Youngstown State University, led by professor Dragana Crnjak.
The Andrews Avenue mural depicts images of the city’s past and visions of its future.

Two other murals painted by Crnjak’s classes – on a coffee shop building and alongside a pipe manufacturer – also made the list.
The mural on the exterior wall of Trek Coffee shop, 1588 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, depicts scenes from the city’s West Side.
The mural on a concrete wall on Division Street next to Vallourec Star, 2669 Martin Luther King Blvd., depicts the steel industry.
“It is wonderful to see Youngstown represented at the state level and to see our students’ work recognized for its artistic and community value,” Crnjak said in a press release. “These murals reflect years of collaboration, creativity and dedication, and it’s meaningful to have that work included in a statewide collection.”
The Vallourec mural will also appear in the America 250-Ohio 2026 wall calendar, Crnjak said.
Here are the other murals in the Mahoning Valley that have been named to the Murals Across Ohio initiative.
