Job Postings in Ohio Decrease Slightly in October

COLUMBUS, Ohio – There were 171,389 job openings in the state posted online from Sept. 14-Oct. 13, a decrease of 1,565 jobs from the previous reporting period.

The number of job ads reported by OhioMeansJobs.com on Thursday is a 69,334 decrease from a year ago.

The majority of the job openings were middle income and upper-middle income positions, according to the report. Middle income jobs, 28.3% of openings, range from $30,000 to $49,000, while upper-middle income, 27% of jobs, are in the $50,000 to $79,000 range. Entry level, less than $30,000, was at 16.7%; followed by six-figure jobs at 16.9% and high-income jobs, $80,000 to $99,000, at 11.1%.

Nearly 46.2% of job openings required only a GED or high school education, followed by $32.7% requiring a bachelor’s degree and 14.7% requiring an associate degree, according to the report. Only 6.5% of job openings required an advanced degree.

First-line supervisors of retail sales workers led the number of openings with 7,672, followed by registered nurses, 7,654; retail salespersons, 7,610; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 6,905; and stockers and order fillers, 3,462.
