SHARON, Pa. – A three-weekend run of “Jesus Christ Superstar” will open this weekend at Acts Performing Arts Center, 40 S. Irvine St., downtown.

Eight performances are scheduled: 7:30 p.m. Saturday and March 20-21 and 27-28; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday and March 22 and 29.

Miranda Woge, Allison Howe and Jen Stephenson in a scene from “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

The production is under the direction of Nicole Walzer, with music director Joseph Spurio and choreographer Jessica Wellington.

The landmark rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice reimagines the final days of Jesus Christ, as told through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. It blends soaring rock anthems with Biblical themes, exploring humanity, betrayal and faith through a contemporary lens.

The production will feature a live band and a cast of 25 performers from Lawrence, Mercer and Mahoning counties. A unique feature of the cast is that it contains multiple people who are related to one another – two pairs of mothers and daughters and one entire family (husband, wife and daughter).

“This cast is truly remarkable and has instilled an energy into this powerful show that should be witnessed by our community,” Walzer said. “Our production invites you to experience ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ not simply as a familiar story but as a reflection of how society responds to radical ideas once they become marketable.” Tickets can be purchased online at ActsPAC.org, by phone at 724 815 4388 and at the box office before each performance.
