Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley launched the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile clinic in 2025, adding to the services it provides for Valley families.

“Services include wellness checkups, vaccines, sick visits and specialist referrals,” says Paul Olivier, vice president of the Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley enterprise. “We’re reducing barriers to care by taking the Care Mobile to neighborhoods, libraries and schools throughout Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.”

Akron Children’s relocated its Warren pediatrics office to Warren G. Harding campus in June, providing school-based health services and an athletic trainer.

A food “farmacy” opened in March at the Boardman campus, through the Dale & Alyce Sheely Family Foundation. Income eligible families with food insecurity receive “prescriptions” to pick out fresh, nonperishable and culturally specific foods.

An outpatient pharmacy for patients is coming to Boardman’s Building A following a $1 million gift from the Kikel Charitable Foundation. In 2026, the outpatient lab draw station for blood work also will move to Building A.

The vision center also expanded its footprint and the Boardman behavioral health department added a virtual intensive outpatient program to complement in-person services.

In Akron, the Tom and Jill Zidian Family Autism Center opened in November through a $2 million leadership gift from the Zidians. Northeastern Ohio children can receive coordinated autism care and specialized services there.

The Akron Children’s Health Center, Warren, is renovating office space, adding more primary care exam rooms and relocating rehabilitative services.

On the Boardman campus, the Family Resource Center will open later this year.

“It will serve as a hub to connect patients and their families to valuable hospital and community resources,” Olivier explains. “The FRC will also offer books and games – and host a variety of activities – so it will be a fun place to visit when families are on campus.”
