AKRON, Ohio – Rick Mahon, DO, has accepted the role of chair of the department of anesthesiology and pain medicine at Akron Children’s Hospital.

Mahon has been a member of the Akron Children’s team since 2018. During that time, he has led the burn anesthesia team and served as the department of anesthesiology’s director of quality and safety. He has also been involved with and led many quality improvement projects at Akron Children’s. He specifically worked to improve the care of patients with Autistic Spectrum Disorder through his involvement with Akron Children’s Autism Steering Committee and the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia Special Interest Group.

Mahon is a voting member of Wake Up Safe, a national group of pediatric hospitals dedicated to making surgeries safer and improving care for newborns, infants and children. He is also an adjunct clinical assistant professor of anesthesiology at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he attended medical school, and an assistant professor of surgery at Northeast Ohio Medical University .

He is a published author in the journal of Pediatric Anesthesia. He has given poster presentations at the national American Society of Anesthesiologists conference and presented visiting professor lectures to anesthesia departments at other institutions.

Mahon has also served on multiple medical mission trips to Chile.

He lives in Medina with his wife and their two young sons.
