GROVE CITY, Pa. – Allegheny Health Network announced plans Friday to expand its Cancer Institute at AHN Grove City Hospital.
The expansion, slated for completion by year’s end, will more than double the Cancer Institute’s footprint, growing from 1,145 square feet to 3,854 square feet.
The project will transform space on the hospital’s first floor near the cafeteria into a larger and more patient-centered cancer facility, enhancing the comfort, privacy and convenience of care for those undergoing cancer treatment.
The $4 million expansion is made possible by a $1 million commitment from the Grove City Health Care Foundation.
Key improvements include:
- Increased chemotherapy infusion bay capacity: The number of infusion bays will increase from six to eight, each featuring private walls for enhanced patient privacy and comfort.
- More exam rooms: The number of exam rooms for provider visits will increase from two to three, reducing wait times and improving access to care.
- Larger check-in area: The check-in area will be expanded to accommodate more patients and streamline the registration process.
- New entrance: A new exterior entrance at the side of the building will provide patients with direct access to parking and simplify arrival and departure.
“This expansion represents a significant investment in our commitment to providing exceptional cancer care for residents of Grove City and its surrounding communities,” said Dr. Christopher Clark, president of AHN Grove City. “Our extraordinary caregivers helped us conceptualize and design a beautiful, healing environment that prioritizes the comfort, health and well-being of our patients, and we can’t wait to open its doors later this year.”
The former Grove City Medical Center became part of AHN in January 2020, and the AHN Cancer Institute opened at the facility July 15, 2020. Since then, patient volume has increased year-over-year, serving a record number of patients in 2024.
“The expanded Cancer Institute at AHN Grove City will not only improve the patient experience but also allow us to increase our capacity to serve a growing number of patients in need of high-quality cancer care in this region,” said Dr. David Bartlett, chairman of the AHN Cancer Institute and president of the AHN Research Institute. “We greatly appreciate the investment that the Grove City Health Care Foundation and AHN have made to bring this vital resource to the Grove City community.”
Services available at the AHN Cancer Institute include medical oncology, infusion therapy, nutritional counseling, social service support and access to cancer clinical trials.
The location of the Cancer Institute in the medical office building will remain fully operational throughout the construction process, ensuring no disruption to patient care.
