YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Alta Care Group in 2024 was selected by Head Start as its agency to provide services in Trumbull County.

The decision widened Alta’s reach, allowing it to provide services like Early Head Start and the Expectant Mothers Program to Trumbull County residents.

It was just one example of the growth that Alta experienced last year, according to Joe Shorokey, CEO. The agency serves children, adolescents, teens and families throughout the Valley.

For nearly a decade, Alta has provided Head Start and Early Head Start services at 11 locations in Mahoning County, serving 760 children and their families each year.

The addition of Trumbull County brings the number of Alta locations to over 20, with over 1,100 children served each year.

“We were honored with the trust the office of Head Start placed in Alta Care Group to expand our operations and provide these vital education, health and wellness services to children and families in Trumbull County,” Shorokey says.

Alta also broadened its behavioral health care services in Trumbull with an expansion at its Howland location, where it added three therapists.

The agency received a $123,151 grant from the OneOhio Recovery Foundation to expand the YouthMOVE program in Mahoning County. Alta  plans to launch a six-week after-school program that incorporates new curriculum into social-recreational activities in a club-like setting.

Alta received $33,000 from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Service for underserved, marginalized and LGBTQIA2S+ youth and families.

Two big changes are coming this year.

After almost 40 years of service, Shorokey plans to retire. During his leadership, Alta Care Group expanded its services and locations, diversified revenue streams and added Head Start programs.

Alta will host Chips for Kids, its first black-tie fundraising event, March 7 at The Embassy in Boardman. Tickets and sponsorships are still available.
