YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – America Makes has launched a new Member Showcase series that will give its members an opportunity to highlight additive manufacturing technologies, share accomplishments and discuss challenges or opportunities for collaboration.

The series will begin with a virtual discussion featuring Pierre Devaux of SPEE3D. “Rethink Your Research: How Cold Spray Manufacturing Opens Up Unique Opportunities” will be presented at 1 p.m. Oct. 21.

The discussion will focus on how academic and defense organizations are using cold spray manufacturing to approach metal part production and application development.

Cold spray manufacturing can be used with a range of materials and for applications including coatings, cladding and metal part production. The process can deposit material at rates of up to 6 kilograms per hour and can operate in desert, arctic and marine environments without inert conditions, according to America Makes.

The webinar will cover applications for cold spray manufacturing in areas including military platforms, fusion and nuclear reactors, hypersonics and semiconductor cooling. It also will include case studies involving demanding operational environments and an overview of alloy research and application development opportunities.

The session is intended for representatives of academia and defense organizations, as well as others interested in advanced material applications.
