YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and East Liverpool City Hospital are among nine medical facilities in northeastern Ohio recognized by the American Heart Association for their efforts to improve the health outcomes for patients who experience heart disease or a stroke.
Each year, the American Heart Association recognizes hospitals across the country for consistently following up-to-date, research-based guidelines to ensure all patients have access to lifesaving care.
In total, 98 hospitals in Ohio and 4,800 nationwide participate in the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines initiative to improve outcomes for patients who experience heart disease or a stroke.
St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital received the Gold Plus Achievement award, which recognizes hospitals for two or more consecutive calendar years of 85% or higher adherence on all achievement measures applicable and 75% or higher adherence with additional select quality measures in strokes.
East Liverpool City Hospital received the Gold Plus Achievement award, which recognizes hospitals for two or more consecutive calendar years of 85% or higher adherence on all achievement measures applicable and 75% or higher adherence with additional select quality measures in heart failure. The hospital also received the Rural Heart Failure Silver award, which recognizes hospitals for one calendar year of 75% or higher adherence to the identified composite score for rural measures.
“Every 40 seconds, someone in America has a stroke or heart attack,” said Lisa Wheeler-Cooper, executive director of the American Heart Association in northeastern Ohio. “High-quality care should be accessible to all, and sites awarded through the Get With the Guidelines program help work toward our shared vision of health and hope for everyone, everywhere.”
