SHARON, Pa. – Mercer County Food Bank’s eighth annual Truck-full of Hope food drive will kick off at noon Tuesday at Diehl Chevrolet, 2705 E. State St., Hermitage.
The six-week holiday food drive, hosted by Diehl Automotive, encourages Mercer County residents, organizations and businesses to donate nonperishable food items to help fill a truck through Dec. 12.
The food drive collected 1,312 pounds of food last year, helping to provide meals for Mercer County families in need during the holiday season.
“We greatly appreciate the owners and employees of Diehl Chevrolet in Hermitage for hosting this annual event that helps fill the plates of our neighbors facing hunger during the holiday season,” said Rebecca Page, executive director of the Mercer County Food Bank.
The food drive will accept all nonperishable food items (no glass containers). The most needed items include canned vegetables, canned meats, peanut butter, cereal and pasta and sauce.
“Donations are more important than ever before, as we are faced with unprecedented times – including a government shutdown, a state budget impasse and a pause in SNAP benefits,” Page said.
