MASURY, Ohio – Aqua Ohio plans to begin a $1.3 million water main replacement project in the Masury area of Brookfield Township.

The project area includes Grover, Owsley, Lucy, Roberts and Hill streets.

Mortimer’s Excavating of Pulaski, Pa., was selected to perform the work, which is expected to begin this week and take approximately three months to complete.

The project includes replacing and upsizing existing 2-inch and 4-inch cast iron, polyvinyl chloride and galvanized pipe with new 4-inch high-density polyethylene pipe and 8-inch ductile iron pipe, which is stronger and more corrosion resistant; installing eight new hydrants to improve fire protection and 13 new valves to isolate sections of main for future maintenance or repairs; and installing new Aqua-owned service lines for 67 customers.

“These mains have been the source of several leaks in the past and have reached the end of their useful life,” said Jennifer Johnson, Aqua Ohio area manager. “Replacing aging mains is part of Aqua’s ongoing commitment to invest in the water system to maintain compliance and reliability of service.”

Water service is not expected to be interrupted during construction except for short-term disconnections near the end of the project as properties are connected to the new mains. Impacted residents will be notified in advance of the interruptions.

Johnson said the project is part of $13.7 million that Aqua will invest in Mahoning and Trumbull counties this year. The company is investing $76 million across its 40 Ohio systems.
