AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive, will celebrate the opening of its new Telehealth Health & Wellness Room with a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Thursday.
The Telehealth Health & Wellness Room was made possible through an AARP Community Challenge Grant and was created to give older adults in the community greater access to healthcare, wellness resources and technology in a comfortable and supportive environment, a news release states.
The Austintown Senior Center serves as a resource, support system and place of connection for older adults throughout the community. Its programs and services promote healthy aging, independence, social connection, education and overall well-being. Seniors visit the center for activities, meals, assistance, health and wellness resources and companionship.
The new addition expands that mission by providing seniors with a private and welcoming setting where they can access healthcare and technology, the release states. Transportation challenges, limited access to technology and unfamiliarity with virtual healthcare can create barriers for older adults seeking care. The new space is designed to help address those barriers and give seniors a place where they can confidently connect with healthcare providers and take an active role in their health and wellness.
