The Way Station

The Way Station

The Way Station exists to display the love of Jesus Christ in practical ways to individuals, families, and communities.

For over 25 years The Way Stations has been a place for the lonely to find friendship, the hungry to find food, and the hurting to find healing. Over the years, we’ve ministered in a variety of ways. What began in 1988 as an ‘open room fellowship’ quickly morphed to food and clothing distribution. By participating in programs such as ‘welfare to work’ and ‘Jobs Ready-Set-Go’ The Way Station has seen many people move from struggling to striving.

We currently run two sites for ministry. Within The Way Station buildings we house “DeVine’s” thrift store. This store provides opportunity for job training as well as provides income for the ministry. It is our hope that the store would bring people of all socioeconomic groups together. Regardless of our financial state, we all have something to learn from each other. TWS encourages ALL to donate and shop at DeVines.

Incorporated in 1988, the Way Station is a not-for profit, 501(c) 3 compassionate ministry. We assist families in need through our food pantry and monthly distribution, job training, support groups, emergency assistance, and special events. Our sites are located at: 769 Springfield Road, Columbiana, Ohio and 125 West Fifth Street, East Liverpool, Ohio.

Visiting The Way Station in person is the best way to understand who we are and what we do. We encourage ALL to stop in and check us out. One of our staff members would be happy to give you a tour and explain our programs.

How You Can Help

Community members can make a positive impact on The Way Station through monetary donations or by volunteering for its programs.

Online donations can be made by going to The Way Station’s website,, and clicking the green ‘Donate Now’ button. Donors can contribute by making one-time, weekly or monthly donations, or by purchasing event tickets or taking part in raffles.

The next event is the eighth annual Simply DeVine Gala & Auction on Nov. 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Links at Firestone. Tickets are $40 apiece. Current raffles include Ohio State football tickets and a chance to win a week’s stay at a condo in St. Petersburg, Fla. Tickets for both raffles are $10 apiece and winners will be drawn at the gala.

Businesses can also sponsor the DeVine Gala with packages ranging from $500 to $10,000. Residents are encouraged to check The Way Station’s website for other events throughout the year.

The Way Station benefits from items donated for sale in its Columbiana and East Liverpool thrift stores. Stores accept clothing and household items in good condition.

Volunteer opportunities at each store include office work, running cash registers or helping in the back room. Volunteers can also help with food and diaper distributions or during special events, including galas and holiday events.

Business professionals are encouraged to inquire about being speakers for The Way Station’s Jobs Ready-Set-Go program. As the Pathways to Independence program gets underway this fall, the organization will need volunteers who have specific niches, says Vicki Ritterspach, director of the Columbiana Way Station.

“We need volunteers who are doing things in their own life and who are ready to kind of share that with someone else,” she says.
