Bateman Joins Jewish Federation as Director of Community Engagement
YOUNGSTOWN — Melissa Bateman has joined the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation as director of community engagement. She previously worked, for 20 years, as a staff attorney at the Seventh District Court of Appeals.
Bateman will play a major role in developing and reinvigorating leadership programs to increase younger professional engagement with the federation and develop future leaders. And she will work with Lisa Long, financial resource development director, and Bonnie Deutsch Burdman, executive director of community relations and government affairs, on community outreach, advocacy, combating antisemitism and more. She will also use her legal expertise to ensure the federation is in compliance with contracts it enters into.
Bateman has spent many years volunteering with the Jewish Federation. Among other volunteer roles, she was chair of the Jewish Community Center Advisory Board and is on the executive board of the Commission for Jewish Education.
Bateman and her husband, Aaron Hively, have three children, Tres, Blythe, and Ezra, and live in New Middletown.
