Bettors Wager $1.09B on Austintown VLTs Over Year
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Bettors wagered more than $1 billion dollars over the past year on video slot machines at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, the Ohio Lottery Commission reported today.
The commission, which oversees video lottery terminal operations in Ohio, stated that VLT wagers for the Austintown Township racino totaled nearly $1.09 billion during the 2017 fiscal year, which ended June 30.
That represents an increase of $118.66 million, or 11.23%, from the $967.18 million wagered at the racino’s VLTs during the 2016 fiscal year, the first full fiscal year since it opened in September 2014.
The racino is operated by Penn National Gaming Inc. in Wyomissing, Pa.
Players took home $965.23 million, up 12.08% from the $861.20 million in winnings during FY2016.
Net win – what remains from credits played minus credits won and promotional play credits – totaled $9.48 million for FY2017, up from $7.63 million from the previous fiscal year.
VLT play during June dropped off from the month before, which was the second-best month in the racino’s history. Wagers totaling $94.24 million were placed on the terminals, down from $98.60 million in May but up from the $79.58 million in June 2016.
Winnings totaled $83.51 million in June, up from $70.98 million a year earlier but down from $87.89 million in May. Net win totaled $9.48 million in June, about the same as the month before, and up from the $7.63 million reported a year earlier.
