YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania expanded its footprint in 2023 by adding Mercer County, Pa., to its service area. Its goal this year is to add volunteers to mentor children who need a positive role model.
The organization serves Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Jefferson and Portage counties in Ohio, and Mercer County in Pennsylvania, says Gabrielle O’Neal, program manager.
The goal is to connect adult volunteers with children facing adversity.
Mentors take their mentees on outings to museums, parks and events, and also meet at libraries to help with homework and develop good habits.
The mentors serve more than 250 youths ages 6 to 15. Mentors must make a one-year commitment for a minimum of six hours per month.
