NILES, Ohio – Boom Ball is one of the newest forms of sports entertainment, and residents of the region can take a shot at becoming a player on one of the teams.

Tryouts will take place Sept. 12 at 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood, but only for applicants selected in advance. To learn more or apply for a 2027 tryout, click HERE.

Boom Ball will make its Mahoning Valley premiere at 7 p.m. that evening at the stadium. For tickets, click HERE.

The game is baseball but played in a fun style that includes trick plays and audience participation. Each team has both men and women.

Like the Savannah Bananas, Boom Ball’s goal is to put a new spin on America’s pastime.

The league is in its inaugural season and has just two teams: Chaos Crew and the Lucky Llamas. That number will not change for the 2027 season, according to Lauren King, vice president of marketing and growth for Boom Ball, as there are no immediate plans to expand.

“The organization is simply looking to identify and recruit additional talent through its upcoming tryouts to support next year’s tour and continue building out the player roster,” Antenucci said of the tryouts.

One of the league’s top officials shed light on the type of people it is seeking.

“We’re not just looking for great athletes,” said Michael Coco, vice president of operations. “These are auditions as much as they are tryouts. We’re looking for entertainers, personalities and competitors who can connect with fans and help create unforgettable experiences for families.”

Full details are available on the application. Here are some key details to keep in mind:

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old by February 2027.
  • Tryouts are not open-call events; applicants must first apply online. The applicants that are selected will be invited to the tryout.
  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
  • Baseball and softball players of all genders are encouraged to apply.

Participants will be evaluated not only on their baseball and softball abilities, but also on their personality, energy, creativity, dance skills, unique talents and entertainment value.

Each Boom Ball game includes six innings of play and takes two hours.
