YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – In 2024, BSHM Architects transitioned its leadership, relocated its Youngstown offices to the Apollo Building and sought opportunities beyond its traditional horizons.
The firm also developed more nimble project management, provided intensive intern development and broadened its virtual working capacity, according to Byron Manchester, president and CEO.
“With a commitment to quality and a mission to transform our environments for the better, we will continue to seek and serve mission-based, community clients in Ohio and western Pennsylvania,” Manchester says.
BSHM Architects is working on projects for clients such as the Western Reserve Port Authority, Mahoning County Board of Commissioners, the city of Youngstown and Perry Schools in Massillon. Work continues on the “Local Roots” food co-op and the Worthington Food Pantry, as well as Buehler’s Grocery Stores and libraries in Poland, Columbiana and Salem.
“Educational architecture is our cornerstone – both K-12 and higher education. But new opportunities to make a difference in our communities have forged relationships with state and county mental health and recovery boards, the board of developmental disabilities, and even a humane society,” Manchester says.
Last year the firm welcomed Mary Dennis, Michael Vala and Michael Ruscitti as partners, filling the shoes of retiring partner Jay Crafton. Other changes include the promotions of Mary Jo Kovachik to chief financial officer and Matt Laury to associate.
Additionally, Mary Dennis became the firm’s fifth partner to receive the AIA Youngstown Gold Medal.
