WARREN, Ohio – Kent State University’s College of Technical Studies will present an open house Feb. 27 at its Trumbull campus to showcase its engineering technology and semiconductor programs.
The event will take place from 3-6 p.m. in the Technology Building.
It will include tours of KSU at Trumbull’s mechanical engineering technology labs, featuring a state-of-the-art HAAS CNC machine that performs high-precision milling, turning and drilling, as well as hands-on activities in the microelectronics manufacturing and semiconductor manufacturing lab.
The open house is designed for area high school students and adult learners, as well as local businesses interested in training opportunities for their employees.
Visitors can also meet with faculty and campus personnel to learn more about the academic programs that combine applied learning, industry-relevant skills and career-ready experience.
At KSU at Trumbull, students can pursue the two-year associate of applied science degrees in electrical/electronic engineering technology and mechanical engineering technology. These degrees move seamlessly into the bachelor of science in engineering technology degree with an additional two years of full-time studies, offered via the Tuscarawas campus.
Also offered at the Trumbull campus are undergraduate certificates for semiconductor manufacturing technician; advanced semiconductor manufacturing technician; computer-aided drafting; design technician; and CAD for manufacturing; as well as microcredential programs in 3D printing; drafting and design; electrical technician; and introduction to semiconductors for STEM majors.
“We’re always excited to welcome local students who want to explore what our engineering programs have to offer,” said Peggy Shadduck, vice president of Kent State’s regional campuses and dean of CATS. “The industries our graduates serve are growing rapidly across the region, and we’re committed to preparing a highly skilled workforce to meet those evolving demands.”
The college’s engineering and semiconductor programs, certificates and pathways are designed to prepare students for high-demand careers, Shadduck said.
