Cafaro Donating $250,000 to Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley
NILES, Ohio — A $250,000 donation from the Cafaro Foundation will fund the Major Resuscitation Room at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.
The room is part of the $30 million expansion of the Emergency Department at Beeghly Campus in Boardman, according to a press release.
“What is wonderful about Akron Children’s is the fact that it never turns away a child for any reason” Phyllis Cafaro, a trustee of the Cafaro Foundation, said in the release. “My love and attention for my own grandchildren makes it easy to understand that everyone feels the same about the children in their families. Everyone deserves the kind of care this hospital provides.”
Since opening in 2008, Akron Children’s Beeghly Campus has seen more than 348,000 visits to its Emergency Department. While it was designed for a capacity of 80 patients daily, at peak season it sees as many as 200. As patient volumes increase, the redevelopment will allow the Emergency Department to minimize wait times and enhance the quality of care in a safe, comfortable environment, according to the release.
Founded in 1996, The Cafaro Foundation was established in memory of William M. Cafaro, founder of the Cafaro real estate development and management company. The foundation supports churches, schools, hospitals and other charitable causes.
