A $15 million investment in Campbell brings health care, education, workforce training and family services together under one roof.

Matthew Bowen, superintendent of the Campbell City School District, discusses the opening of the Campbell Health and Community Development Center, a new facility designed to serve students, families and residents throughout the region. Bowen says the center builds on the district’s effort to address the needs of the whole child and family by expanding access to services and educational opportunities.

The center brings together community, health care, education and workforce partners, with services that include vision and dental care, early college opportunities, workforce training, hydroponic growing stations and family resources. Students can also gain hands-on experience through programs and partnerships with organizations including Youngstown State University, Sight for All United, Eye Care Associates and Goodwill Industries.

Partners and supporting organizations include Akron Children’s Hospital, the Appalachian Children Coalition, Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio, Youngstown State University, NEOMED Bitonte College of Dentistry, Eye Care Associates, Sight for All United, Mahoning County Green Team, Goodwill Industries, United Way and Delta Dental Foundation.

Bowen says the $15 million investment receives support through the Appalachian Community Grant Program and other funding sources. He says placing multiple organizations in one location creates a more sustainable network of services while expanding their long-term impact on students and families.

The center also provides spaces for studying, STEM activities, family engagement and recreation as Campbell expands its approach beyond traditional education to support student health, development and academic achievement.
