YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University has earned the Carnegie Foundation’s Elective Classification for Community Engagement, placing it among fewer than 300 colleges and universities nationwide to receive the designation.

University officials announced the recognition Monday, saying it reflects years of work across campus and with community partners. The designation, awarded on YSU’s first submission, recognizes institutions that integrate community partnerships into teaching, research and service.
