YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Cerise Stone Mill Baking Co. has opened at 3500 Canfield Road in the Cornersburg district, offering French specialties with modern flair.
The shop was born of the family legacy of owners and brothers Marc and Alain Pisan, who hail from France. They have combined their skills with the culinary talents of Alain’s wife, Renee, and the business and marketing skills of Marc’s wife, Samantha.
The flour milling and baking shop offers Pisan family recipes that are generations old, along with the family’s latest creations.
Cerise is open to the public Thursday through Saturday, from 7:30-11:30 a.m. or until sold out.
The shop produces croissants, French pastries, specialty cookies, quiche, house-made pasta and more, all using a proprietary blend of flour milled on‐site. The flour is made from spelt from organic, non‐GMO Ohio wheat, combined with other specialty flours.
“We’re thrilled to bring Cerise to Cornersburg,” said Alain Pisan, co-founder. “This bakery unites centuries-old Provence traditions with the bounty of Ohio’s farms – offering our community not just pastries, but exceptional taste and quality.”
The culinary journey of the brothers began in the coastal Provence, France, region, where generations of their family worked as artisanal bakers.
In the early 1990s, Alain and his wife came to the Mahoning Valley, where they opened Renee’s French Bakery in Canfield and later the French Street Cafe in Niles. The shops introduced the area to traditional French techniques, paired with local warmth.
In 2006, Marc and Alain reunited in Sonoma County, Calif., where Marc had been working in the wine industry. Along with their wives, they opened Chloe’s French Café and Catering in Santa Rosa, which became a local favorite for over 16 years.
Now they are bringing their decades of experience back to the Valley at Cerise Stone Mill Baking.
