YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber Board of Directors approved a motion advocating for a redistricting map that maintains two distinct congressional representatives, one for Mahoning County and one for Trumbull County.
The board’s action reaffirms the Regional Chamber’s longstanding position that the Mahoning Valley’s residents and businesses deserve strong, fair and effective representation in Washington, D.C., according to a news release. The chamber board maintains having two distinct districts is the best way to accomplish that, ensuring the specific needs of both counties continue to have dedicated champions in Congress.
“Mahoning and Trumbull counties have unique needs, priorities and opportunities,” Guy Coviello, president and CEO of the Regional Chamber, said in the release.
“Having two representatives ensures our region has more advocates, more influence and a stronger voice to secure federal resources and advance policies that drive growth and competitiveness,” he continued. “I am grateful to our board for recognizing the importance of this issue and for taking decisive action.”
In 2022, when Ohio lost a congressional seat, the chamber advocated to prevent Mahoning and Trumbull counties from being consolidated into a single district, according to the release. That effort helped preserve two distinct voices in Congress, split between the 6th District and 14th District.
