YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Chase Bank will open its new downtown branch March 10, a bank spokeswoman confirmed.
Customers of the bank have been receiving notices in the mail over the past few weeks that the mobile branch in the Covelli Centre parking lot would close March 7 and inviting them to visit the new downtown branch at 44 E. Federal St., starting March 10.
The branch will be located on the ground floor of the Stambaugh Building, where the DoubleTree by Hilton Youngstown Downtown hotel and Casa di Canzonetta also are located.
The notices also were available at the mobile branch in the Covelli Centre parking lot that was activated in June following the May 28 natural gas explosion that destroyed its branch in the Realty Tower and killed a bank employee.
“I can confirm the branch is slated to open on March 10,” said Stephanie Gostomski, executive director, regional communications for JPMorgan Chase. She was awaiting further details about the branch.
The bank will occupy 3,734 square feet of space at the southwest corner of the building, according to a certificate of plan approval issued by the Mahoning County Building Department last fall. The space has been vacant since the hotel opened in 2018.
The city’s design review committee will consider a request Tuesday from the bank to approve installation of two new sets of internally illuminated letters and logos with plex faces and returns on the West and South sides of the building.
Huntington National Bank briefly operated a small branch on the southeast side of the Stambaugh Building until the explosion. The bank moved back into its previous space in the Mahoning Bank Building last fall.
Chase had moved to Realty in 2021 from 6 Federal Plaza West, where the bank and its predecessors had operated for decades.
