YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Choffin Career & Technical Center has once again earned a 5-star rating on the Ohio School Report Card, released Monday.
This marks the second consecutive year the state’s highest distinction was awarded to Choffin, which provides career and technical education to students within the Youngstown City School District and partner schools.
Choffin earned a 96.5% in technical skill attainment, a 96.1% four-year graduation rate, 109.2% in career and post-secondary readiness and a 96.8% post-program placement rate.
“Earning a 5-star rating for the second year in a row is a tremendous honor for Choffin,” said Michael Saville, director of Choffin Career & Technical Center. “As the only urban Career Technical Planning District in Ohio to achieve this distinction, we know maintaining 5 stars year after year is even more challenging. These results reflect the strategies our team has embraced supporting students through retakes, aligning curriculum to state standards and delivering engaging instruction every day.”
Choffin offers juniors and seniors the opportunity to jumpstart their careers while continuing their academic education across a range of industries, including the medical fields, arts, skilled trades, business entrepreneurship and public safety. Students spend half of their day engaged in hands-on technical training at Choffin while completing academic requirements at their home high schools, allowing them to remain active in extracurricular activities such as sports while gaining career-ready skills.
New for 2025, all Youngstown City School District students are now enrolled in one of Choffin’s career and technical education programs, bringing total participation to more than 600 students.
