YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Choffin Career & Technical Center’s new student open house, originally set to take place Friday, has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 1.
The open house is designed for new juniors and transfer students who will begin classes at Choffin on Sept. 2.
Students will have the opportunity to get familiar with the schedule; meet building administrators and program instructors; tour the career center and visit their program lab; and ask questions and get answers before the first day.
“Starting at a new school can come with a lot of questions, and we want our students to feel comfortable and prepared from the very beginning,” said Michael Saville, director of Choffin. “The open house will give our new students an opportunity to meet the people who will support them, see where they will spend their time while at Choffin and get familiar with our career center before they officially begin on Sept. 2.”
Choffin Career & Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St., is a 5-star career center serving students from the Youngstown City School District and other area partner schools. Starting with the 2025-26 school year, all YCSD junior and senior students are enrolled in one of Choffin’s career and technical education programs.
As a half-day career center, Choffin provides juniors and seniors with the opportunity to jump-start their careers while continuing their academic education at their home high schools, offering programs across a variety of industries. The half-day model allows students to gain career-ready technical skills while remaining connected to their home schools.
Spots are still available in some programs for the 2026-27 school year for area high school juniors who are interested in attending a career technical center for half of their school day. Students and families interested in learning more are encouraged to attend the open house.
