VIENNA, Ohio – As cybercrime, scams and financial fraud continue to target businesses of all sizes, local business owners and executives will have an opportunity next week to hear directly from law enforcement and fraud prevention experts about the threats affecting companies across the region and how to avoid them.

717 Credit Union and The Business Journal will host the next event in the Coffee and Connections networking series Thursday, May 21, with a discussion centered on business fraud and cybersecurity risks facing businesses.

The event will take place from 8-9 a.m. at 717 Credit Union’s Vienna branch, 585 Youngstown-Kingsville Road. Sgt. Mike Altiere of the Warren Police Department will be joined by 717 Credit Union’s fraud team to discuss trends in local business fraud, the impact such crimes are having on organizations and steps businesses can take to protect themselves.

The monthly series, launched earlier this year through a partnership between 717 Credit Union and The Business Journal, is designed to bring together business owners, professionals and community leaders from across northeastern Ohio for networking and educational discussions.

Past Coffee and Connections events have featured discussions on how housing impacts economic growth and business attraction efforts, issues affecting small businesses and the growing impact of college athletics.

In addition to the featured presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to network with other professionals from throughout the Mahoning Valley and surrounding communities.

Attendees also receive digital-only access to The Business Journal for seven months and 17 days.

Coffee and Connections rotates among 717 Credit Union branches throughout its footprint.

Upcoming events are scheduled for June 18 in Ravenna, Aug. 20 in Howland, Sept. 17 in Hubbard, Oct. 15 in Wallhaven, Nov. 19 in downtown Akron and Dec. 17 in Streetsboro. The event is free to attend, though reservations are encouraged.
