CHICAGO – Cohen & Co., one of the nation’s leading tax and accounting firms, is acquiring Tassi and Co., a boutique accounting and consulting firm based in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
The transaction, expected to close at the end of March, will expand Cleveland-based Cohen & Co.’s real estate service offerings and strengthen its presence in the Chicago market.
Founded by Joe Tassi in 1990, Tassi and Co. has approximately 35 employees and serves real estate owners, developers, managers and investors. The firm provides outsourced fund and partnership accounting, property management and development accounting, construction draw accounting and tax services.

Tassi and Co. professionals are expected to join Cohen & Co. when the transaction closes, including Tassi, Terri Nietzel and Gretchen Sampson, who will become partners. The team will continue operating from its current office in Deer Park, Ill., alongside Cohen & Co.’s existing downtown Chicago location.

The acquisition follows Cohen & Co.’s strategic growth investment from Lovell Minnick Partners in late 2024. The firm’s most recent acquisition was Cleveland-based Tax and Wealth Management Inc., which closed in January.
Cohen & Co., founded in 1977, has more than 800 professionals and 13 offices across the U.S., including one at 201 E. Commerce St. in downtown Youngstown. It also has additional operations in the Cayman Islands. The firm provides assurance, tax and advisory services to clients ranging from privately held businesses to multinational corporations.
